Cholesterol & Heart Health

Cholesterol is a necessary component of the blood. A waxy substance, cholesterol is found in the lipids of blood. The body uses it to build new cells, but having high levels of cholesterol can lead to conditions that threaten good health. 2. Psyllium

The correlation between psyllium and good health has been studied for a number of years. For example, a recent study found that ingesting 5.1 grams of psyllium twice a day resulted in significant reductions in both the LDL cholesterol and serum cholesterol.

3. Hawthorn berry

This herb contains powerful antioxidants that provide many benefits to the heart. These include dilating and relaxing the blood vessels, increasing the flow of blood to the heart and reducing the degeneration of the blood vessels.

4. Butcher’s broom

This herb is notorious for strengthening the walls of blood vessels, increasing the circulation to the extremities, as well as the brain, and acting as an anti-inflammatory. These properties make it an especially good choice for those people who are bedridden.

5. Guggul

Guggul contains a number of compounds, such as gum, volatile oils and resin, that have been shown to reduce cholesterol levels. This includes a reduction of triglycerides levels.

6. Licorice root

In addition to increasing overall health, licorice root has also been shown to establish a normal heart rhythm.

7. Fenugreek seeds

Fenugreek seeds have been proven to lower cholesterol levels. This herb contains lysine and alkaloids, both of which have properties that lower bad cholesterol in the blood without adversely affecting good cholesterol.

Using herbs enables a person to reduce their levels of cholesterol while also enjoying great tasting food. This can help reduce the feelings of deprivation that can occur when a food must be cut from the diet.
